COLLEGE PARK, Md.- The University of Maryland women's water polo team received a vote in the National Varsity Top 20 poll for the week of April 25 following the Terps' upset over No. 16 Princeton in last weekend's CWPA Southern Division Championship. The honor marks the first time the Terps have been recognized by the National Poll this year, and the team is currently ranked sixth in the CWPA.
Freshman Shannon Simerly was also honored this week, named the CWPA Southern Division Player of the Week after netting nine goals during Maryland's two games. Simerly scored five in the Terps' 14-6 rout over Bucknell, and spearheaded Maryland's 9-8 upset over nationally-ranked Princeton in the title game with four goals.
Maryland is seeded sixth for next weekend's CWPA Eastern Division Championship, and will commence the tournament with a rematch against third-seeded Princeton on April 28 at 1:30 p.m. in Princeton, N.J.
