The University of Maryland volleyball team today released its schedule for the 2007 season. Coach Janice Kruger's team will be looking for to return to the NCAA tournament, after missing out on the postseason last year. The Terps advanced to the second round of the NCAA's in 2005.
This year's schedule is highlighted by eleven home conference games, and a home and away series versus ACC rival Duke. The Blue Devils captured their first conference title with a 21-1 record in league play, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament. The Terrapins will be looking for revenge when they travel to Durham, NC to take on the Blue Devils early in conference play on September 28. Maryland, who lost twice to Duke last season, will host the Devils on October 28.
Maryland will be tested during its early conference schedule. Five of the Terps' first seven ACC games will be on the road, including the trip to Duke. Maryland opens their conference slate at Boston College on September 15, and also travels to Virginia to face last year's ACC runner-up.
The Terrapins kick off their 2007 schedule with three tournaments, including the University of Maryland Invitational, which the Terps will host on September 7 and 8. Maryland starts off the year at the University of Cincinnati Invitational, August 24-25, and the University of Richmond Invitational, August 31-September 1. Maryland finished 7-2 last season in early season tournament action a year ago.
Maryland then welcomes North Carolina on Friday September 28 for the conference home opener. Two seasons ago, the Terps and Tar Heels finished tied atop the ACC standings at 18-4, but the Heels won the ACC crown by virtue of a better head-to-head record of 4-3.
Maryland closes the year with four consecutive home matches, with the season finale versus Georgia Tech scheduled for November 23.
