Calkin Earns All-ACC Recognition

May 7, 2007

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Kelly Calkin of the University of Maryland was one of 12 student-athletes selected Monday to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Golf Team as announced by the conference office.

Calkin, a junior from St. Charles, Ill., was the lone Terrapin selected for the squad in voting by the league's coaches. She is the second Maryland player ever picked for the team, as Kate Stepanek was chosen in last year's balloting.

The individual champion earlier this year at the Napa River Grill Cardinal Classic in Louisville, Ky., Calkin is the Terrapins' leader in scoring average. She has averaged 75.1 this season, with 27 of her 28 rounds counting toward the team score in Maryland's 10 events.

Calkin has posted six top-10 finishes and eight top-20 placings during the 2006-07 season.

She will lead the Terrapins this week into the 2007 NCAA Central Regional Tournament, to be played on the University of Michigan Golf Course in Ann Arbor. Maryland is one of seven teams from the ACC to be playing this weekend. The Terps are the only league team assigned to the Central Regional, with the other six being sent to the NCAA East Regional.

Duke, which has won 12 straight ACC team championships, put all five starters on the 12-player team, including Player of the Year Amanda Blumenherst and Freshman of the Year Alison Whitaker. The Blue Devils' Dan Brooks was Coach of the Year.
