COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland head water polo coach Carl Salyer announced the signing of Ally Beck (Mission Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita HS) to a National Letter of Intent. Beck, who will join the Terrapins for the 2007-08 season, enjoyed a decorated prep career in California.
In addition to competing in water polo at Santa Margarita High School, Beck also excelled on the swim team, helping her squad earn the 2007 Trinity League Championship. She was named the 2006 Swimmer of the Year and won four individual events at the Serra League Championship in 2006. Her team captured the Serra League crown in 2004 and 2005.
Beck helped the water polo team at Santa Margarita capture the 2007 Trinity League Championship en route to a quarterfinal round appearance in the CIF Division 1 Tournament. She helped her team post a fourth-place finish at the CIF Masters Tournament this past season after claiming the Serra League Championship for three years from 2004-2006.
"We're thrilled to have Ally join our program," said Salyer. "We're expecting her to come in at center. She has been with a great club program and high school program. She will help us immediately at the post position and will give our team some added punch on the offensive end."
A member of the SET Water Polo Club coached by former Olympic gold medalist Brad Schumacher, Beck posted a top-two finish at the 2006 Speedo Top 40. She is currently training for the 2007 Junior Olympics after posting a top-three finish at the 2006 Junior Olympics.
