POSITION TITLE:                Chief of Staff/ Executive Senior Associate Director of Athletics

 

DEPARTMENT:                    Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA)

UNIVERSITY:            Maryland Athletics is widely considered one of the nation's premier intercollegiate athletics programs.  The Terps have won 15 National Championships in the last 13 years. The program was selected for the PRISM Award as one of the nation's best managed athletics programs.  In 2006, they earned the highest federal graduation rate of any Atlantic Coast Conference public institution and had more ACC All Academic selections than ever before.  There are 27 varsity teams, 12 for men and 15 for women and a budget of approximately $55 million.  The University of Maryland was also ranked as the 18th best public institution in the U.S. by U.S. News and World Report.  Maryland has an enviable 91 academic programs ranked in their respective "Top 25".  The campus is stunningly beautiful and is located 9 miles northeast of the nation's capitol.  A suburb, Columbia, MD, was selected by Money Magazine as one of the "Top 5" places to live in the United States. Twenty-one of the 27 varsity teams and all administrators are located in the beautiful Comcast Center, built in 2002, a 440,000 square foot facility on campus.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The University of Maryland Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is seeking an experienced athletics professional to serve as the second-in-command role of Chief of Staff/Executive Senior Associate Director of Athletics. This individual will: (1) serve as Chief Operating Officer, day-to-day, with several senior staff reporting to him/her. During travel by the Director of Athletics, this individual will: (2) assume administrative responsibility for the department.  Individuals with experience as Director of Athletics are encouraged to apply, as well as senior-level athletics administrators who have previously or currently serve in the role as Chief Operating Officer.  The ability to  move with alacrity and wisdom, while modeling an excellent work ethic, along with senior-level supervisory skills and passion for the success of Maryland Athletics.  Must posses an in-depth understanding of the dynamics and complexity of NCAA, Division I intercollegiate athletics with regard to internal operations as well as the numerous external stakeholders and publics.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  BA degree required, Master's degree preferred.  A minimum of 5 years as a Chief Operating Officer in intercollegiate athletics or a combination of 5 years, including any as an AD in Division I.

 

SALARY:        Competitive and commensurate with experience.
