POSITION TITLE:               Head Coach - Men's / Women's Swimming & Diving

 

DEPARTMENT:                   Intercollegiate Athletics

 

CATEGORY:                         Non-tenured Faculty, Contract (12 months)

 

UNIVERSITY: The University of Maryland is one of the more comprehensive and successful athletic programs in the United States with 27 sports and an annual expense budget of approximately $55 million in the context of a distinguished academic University which is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities and a beautiful campus located 8 miles north of the nation's capital and 30 miles south of Baltimore.  The men's / women's swimming and diving teams compete in the premier collegiate athletic aquatic facility in the country, which hosts international and national championships such as the World Cup Swimming Championship, USA Swimming National Championship, and Atlantic Coast Conference Championship. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Organize and direct all aspects of a highly competitive, Division I Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving program.  Specific responsibilities include identifying and recruiting athletically and academically qualified student-athletes; scheduling and conducting practice sessions and regular season contests; developing, implementing, and enforcing team rules; overseeing the administrative process for team travel, budget, student-athlete eligibility and academic progress; participating in fund raising and public relations activities; and promoting the philosophy and objectives of the Intercollegiate Athletics program. Knowledge of and commitment to compliance with all NCAA, ACC and University rules and regulations, as well as dedication to the full academic and social development of student-athletes are essential.  Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor's degree required. Must have a minimum of 5 years of demonstrated successful coaching experience in swimming, preferably at the Division I collegiate level. Must have knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.  Strong communication and organizational skills.

 

SALARY:       Commensurate with experience.
