COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The University of Maryland Athletics Department and Terrapin Sports Marketing announced Friday that WEMD 1460 AM, based in Easton, Md. and WPTX 1690 AM in Lexington Park, Md., are new affiliates on the Terrapin Sports Radio Network.
Beginning with this weekend's football opener vs. Villanova (6 p.m. Saturday from Chevy Chase Bank Field at Byrd Stadium), WEMD will provide coverage from Annapolis, Md. to Cambridge, Md., while WPTX will cover southern Maryland.
The Terrapin Sports Radio Network now features 10 affiliates, including LIVE 105.7 FM (WHFS) in Baltimore (Flagship), ESPN Radio 1300 AM (WJFK) in Baltimore (Flagship), WJFK 106.7 FM in Washington D.C., WTBO AM 1450 in Cumberland, Md., WFMD AM 930 in Frederick, Md., WARK AM 1490 in Hagerstown, Md., WMSG AM 1050 in Oakland, Md. and WQMR FM 101.1 in Ocean City, Md.
The recent changes to the Terrapin Sports Radio Network may mean that some fans will have to alter their previous listening behavior.
Though WJFK-FM enjoys more wattage strength than the previous DC affiliate (WMAL-AM), the radio signal is strongest to the north and west. That means that some fans in parts of northern Montgomery County, Howard County and northern Prince Georges County will get a stronger signal from WHFS-FM, the Baltimore flagship station, in the north.
To find the best station for your area, please consult the Terrapin Sports Radio Network coverage map above.
Programming Note for Saturday, Sept. 1
Due to technical difficulties at WPTX 1690 AM in Lexington Park, Md., Saturday's football game between Maryland and Villanova can be heard on WSMD Star 98.3 FM in that region. All future Terp contests will be broadcast on WPTX 1690.
