
Brown, Gillming Selected to Preseason All-ACC Volleyball Team

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland seniors Jade Brown and Beth Gillming were both selected to the recently-released Atlantic Coast Conference's preseason all-conference team, giving the Terrapins a pair of representatives at the outside hitter position.
Brown, a two-time Second-Team All-ACC pick, led the Terps in kills (427), kills per game (3.81) and total attempts (1,127) last season, while Gillming finished with a second-best 246 kills and 722 attempts at a 2.03 kills-per-game average.
Defending conference champion Duke had the most selections with four, followed by Clemson with three. Georgia Tech, Virginia and Florida State all had two representatives.
Coming off last year's 11th-place finish, Maryland was picked to finish ninth in the team poll.
Duke was an almost unanimous choice to repeat as league champion, garnering10 of the 12 first-place votes. Georgia Tech, the recipient of the other first-place votes, was projected second. Finishing out the list from third to 12th was: Virginia, Clemson, Florida State, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Maryland, Miami, Boston College and NC State.
The Terps kick off the 2007 season Friday, Aug. 24 at the University of Cincinnati Invitational against Oakland.
