Terps Move Up Four Spots on Final Day at Cougar Classic

HANAHAN, S.C. - Senior Kelly Calkin and freshman Kerri Connolly each tied for 27th place overall to lead University of Maryland finishers after Tuesday's final round of the Cougar Classic women's golf tournament.
Connolly fired a team-low 73 on Tuesday, while Calkin shot a 75, as they each finished at 6-over-par 222 for the 54-hole event.
As a team, Maryland shot a 300 on the final day, passing four teams to finish in 13th place in the 20-team field, which drew 12 teams that appeared in the NCAA Tournament last year. The Terrapins finished at 907 as a team.
Also for the Terps, Katie Trotter had a 76 on Tuesday for a 226 total and a tie for 46th, while junior transfer Lara Peffley also shot a 76 en route to a 237 total and a tie for 79th. Victoria Arena finished at 246 overall and in 97th after an 80 on Tuesday.
Lisa Maunu of Notre Dame, the first-round leader, again had one of the best rounds of the day on Tuesday to claim medalist honors. She finished at 6-under-par 210 to win the individual title, three shots better than teammate So-Hyun Park.
Notre Dame also won the team championship, using a 291 team score on Tuesday to overtake Tennessee in the final round. The Fighting Irish finished the tournament at 870, one shot better than the Lady Vols and five shots better than Texas and Alabama.
Maryland plays next on Sept. 17 and 18 at the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup in Louisville, Ky.
