COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After last weekend's close loss at Boston College, the University of Maryland volleyball team will look to earn its first Atlantic Coast Conference victories of the season this weekend at Duke and Wake Forest.
The Terrapins (8-2, 0-1) are at the No. 14 Duke Blue Devils Friday at 7 p.m. before heading to Winston-Salem, N.C. the next evening against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons at 7:30.
Friday night's game can be watched live on the Internet at ACCSelect.
The Blue Devils (6-3, 1-0) won the ACC last season and have been battle-tested this year. Two of Duke's three losses have been to top-five teams, including one at No. 1 Nebraska. The Blue Devils also lost to No. 4 USC and Louisville.
Duke boasts top-five conference-performers in most league categories. Senior setter Ali Hausfeld, the preseason ACC player of the year, is tops in the conference in assists at 13.69 a game, more than two better than the second-place performer.
The Terps are 24-31 all-time against the Blue Devils. Maryland's last victory came in 2005.
Wake Forest (3-7, 0-1) is currently 11th in the ACC and lost to the Blue Devils Tuesday night in Durham, N.C. Junior outside hitter Jessica Furlong paces the Decons' attack 4.30 kills per game.
Maryland is 20-11all-time against Wake Forest, but lost both matches last year and have dropped three in a row overall to the Deacs. The two schools have split the past eight matchups. The Terps' last victory in the series came in October of 2005 in College Park.
