WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Maryland volleyball dropped its third consecutive match to fall to 0-3 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, losing 3-0 (20-30, 30-32, 25-30) at Wake Forest Saturday evening.

The Terps (8-4, 0-3) started slowly in the first game, falling behind by 10 at 16-6, and never recovered.

However, things looked better at the onset of game No. 2 as Maryland grabbed an early 11-5 lead against Wake Forest (5-7, 2-1) and held the lead for most of the match. Maryland led 29-27 and held two match points, but could not finish off the Demon Deacons. With the game tied at 30 apiece, an attack error by freshman Michelle Kenning (Cincinnati, Ohio) and a handling error by freshman Rachel Profit (Washington, D.C.) gave Wake the victory.

The Terps battled in the third frame, but, again, the Deacs pulled through. The game was tied at 19, but Wake finished on an 11-6 run.

Senior Beth Gillming (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the Terps' offense with 10 kills. Maryland's block continued to perform, notching 15 team blocks. Senior Jade Brown (Atlanta, Ga.) and junior Mary Beth Brown (Vienna, Va.) each had seven. Sophomore Kathleen Wilson (Lake Orion, Mich.) had five, playing increased minutes.

Wake Forest Junior Jessica Furlong led all players with 20 kills.

The loss was Maryland's fourth straight to Wake Forest and third straight in Winston-Salem. Wake's three-game victory marked the first time it has swept Maryland since 1999.

The Terps will try to get back into the win column next weekend when they open home ACC play against North Carolina Friday and NC State Saturday.
