COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Second-ranked Maryland caps off a busy week with two games this weekend at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. The Terps host ACC-foe No. 19 Virginia on Saturday, Sept. 29. On Sunday, Sept. 30 the Terrapins take on Temple in an important regional matchup.
Saturday's game against the Cavaliers begins at 1 p.m. and can be heard on WMUC Sports and can be watched on ACC Select. Links are available at www.umterps.com.
The Terps are coming off a 4-1 victory over Princeton, extending their win streak to 14 games, dating back to last season. Maryland is 2-0 in the ACC entering Saturday's contest, posting wins over Boston College and Wake Forest earlier in the season.
Virginia is 5-4 on the season and 0-1 in the ACC, dropping its ACC opener, 2-1, to Boston College. The Cavaliers are on a two-game losing streak, after winning four in a row. Leading the way for the Cavs is Traci Ragukas who has scored six of her team's 16 goals. The defense has allowed 17 goals, as goalkeepers Amy Desjadon and Devon Burnley have split time in the cage, combining for a 1.89 goals against average.
Temple is off until its matchup against the Terps on Sunday and sport a 9-3 record on the season. The Owls have oustscored their opponents, 25-15, as Alli Lokey has tallied a team-high eight. Erin Hanshue has played every minute in goal and boasts a 1.50 GAA.
Maryland is 10-0 with five wins coming against ranked opponents. Four different Terrapins scored in their win against the Tigers on Wednesday, including this week's ACC Player of the Week freshman Katie O'Donnell (Blue Bell, Pa.). O'Donnell has scored 12 goals on the season, the most of anyone in the country. Teammates redshirt junior Kim Ziegler (Kingsville, Md.) and junior Danielle Keeley (Elkton, Md.) also scored their first goals of the season.
Redshirt sophomore Alicia Grater (Gilbertsville, Pa.) came into the game in the second half, posting two critical saves, to help the Terrapins record the win.
