Final Stats

College Park, Md. - University of Maryland senior outside hitter Beth Gillming posted 15 kills and hit .387 for the match to lead the Terps' women's volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over visiting North Carolina State on Saturday evening inside the Comcast Pavilion. Maryland, winners of eight of its last 11 matches, improves to 10-4 on the year, 2-3 in ACC action.

N.C. State (3-12, 0-5 ACC) won the opening game, 30-26 but the Terrapins responded winning three straight, 30-25, 31-29 and finally 30-16.

Terp senior Jade Brown collected 15 kills to go along with six blocks while junior Mary Beth Brown connected on 11 kills and five blocks. Junior Maggie Schmelzle had six kills, 11 digs and four blocks.

In game one, the Terps got out to a 7-3 lead but NC State stormed back with a 15-8 highlighted by two kills from Lauren Zanziboni and two more kills from Jade Brown. The Wolfpack never relinquished the lead in the opening period. Keri DeMar hit .750 in the first frame with six kills while Chrissy Zirpolo and Zanziboni combined for five kills.

In game two, Maryland only trailed 5-3 but four straight NC State errors gave the Terps a 7-5 lead. UM received 10 kills each from Jade Brown and Gillming for the game.

Game four was neck and neck throughout with N.C. State holding the biggest edge at 24-19. Maryland battled back with Mary Beth Brown recording three straight kills on Rachel Profit serves to claw the home team to within 24-23. Jade Brown notched a kill to give UM a 30-29 lead before Jade Brown and Kati Usher combined for a block for the game-winning point.

In the fourth and final game, Maryland raced out to a 5-1 advantage forcing the Wolfpack to call a timeout. Mary Beth Brown connected on three kills in four attacking attempts and four blocks in the final game alone. The Terps held a commanding 21-9 lead and never looked back.
