COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After last weekend's long weekend at VCU featuring a trio of five-game victories, the University of Maryland volleyball team is starting to make things look easier.

The Terps swept James Madison Friday night and opened Saturday morning with a 3-0 victory over New Hampshire in the Hilton Garden Inn Greenbelt Invitational at Comcast Center Pavilion.

Maryland (7-1) won by scores of 30-24, 30-22 and 30-23 for its fifth straight victory. New Hampshire fell to 6-3.

The Terps' senior outside hitting duo of Jade Brown (Atlanta, Ga.) and Beth Gillming (Cincinnati, Ohio) seemed too much at times for the Wildcats. Gillming paced the Terps with 13 kills on .524 hitting while amassing eight digs defensively. Brown was also efficient, notching 12 kills on .409 hitting. Brown also had a team-high four blocks.

As a team, the Terps out-hit the Wildcats .333-.183.

New Hampshire went up 10-6 in the first game, but Maryland responded with a 15-6 run to go up 21-16 and held serve from there.

The Terps started fast in game two, going up 7-2 early and never looked back, leading by as many as 11 at 26-15.

With the third game close at 14-13 in Maryland's favor, the Terps sealed the deal with a 7-2 run to build a working margin. Sophomore middle blocker Meredith Doyle (McLean, Va.) entered the lineup late in the final game and put the finishing touches on the match with a kill from Rachel Profit (Washington, D.C.).

Freshman outside hitter Michelle Kenning (Cincinnati, Ohio) played well in her first collegiate start, notching five kills on .333 hitting. Sophomore Ashley Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa.) also played well with increased playing time, registering seven kills. Junior Mary Beth Brown (Vienna, Va.) added six kills and three blocks. Sophomore Hayley Hanson (Huntington Beach, Calif.) led the Terps in assists with 19 while Profit was close behind with 15.

New Hampshire's Emmy Blouin led all players with 14 kills.

In Saturday's other afternoon game, James Madison swept Temple.

The Terps finish up the tournament at 7:30 against Temple, while New Hampshire plays James Madison at 5:30.
