COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland women's lacrosse seniors Dana Dobbie and Kelly Kasper have been recognized as two of the top 20 players in the country by Inside Lacrosse. The publication lists Dobbie as the No. 3 player in the country while Kasper comes in at No. 7. The Terrapins are the only team in the ACC with two players named on the list.
Maryland is just one of two teams with two players listed in the top 10. Northwestern has three recognized and four overall. Penn and Notre Dame were the only other programs with multiple players on the list, both with a pair ranked in the top 20.
Dobbie racked up numerous awards last season as she was the 2007 ACC Player of the Year, a first team All-American, and a finalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy. She led the team with 39 ground balls and 79 draw controls and her 3.95 draws per game ranked fourth in the country. Dobbie was also second on the squad with 53 goals and 69 points while forcing 24 turnovers on the defensive end, a number that ranked third on the team.
Kasper, a two-time All-American and All-ACC selection, posted 26 goals and 22 assists last year. Her assists ranked second on the team while her 31 caused turnovers were the most for the Terps. Kasper, a dominant presence on both ends of the field, also recorded 28 draw controls and 24 ground balls.
The two seniors were named tri-captains for the 2008 season along with fellow classmate Katie Pumphrey.
Maryland begins the 2008 campaign on February 22 at Massachusetts before taking on Boston College in the ACC opener on February 24 in Chestnut Hill. Fans can catch their first glimpse of the Terps on Valentine's Day, February 14, when they scrimmage England at Noon at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
