The University of Maryland volleyball team hosts its rivals from Virginia this weekend when the Virginia Tech Hokies and Virginia Cavaliers come to Comcast Pavilion. Virginia Tech will be in town at 7 p.m. Friday, with Virginia to follow at 7 p.m. Saturday.
The Terrapins dropped a pair of matches at North Carolina and NC State last weekend to fall to 5-10 on the season and 1-2 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.
The Hokies are off to the best start in program history with a 12-2 record and nine-match winning streak. The Hokies are 3-0 in the ACC to sit atop the league standings. Among Virginia Tech's victories are ACC powers Clemson and Georgia Tech.
Maryland has won seven of the 10 meetings all-time between the two schools. The teams split last season's matches, with each winning 3-1 at home.
After a strong finish in 2007, the Cavaliers are off to a slow start in ACC play this season, dropping their first three conference matches. Virginia has lost to Virginia Tech, Clemson and Georgia Tech in league play.
Virginia has lost five of its last six matches overall, but does boast a win this season against Tennessee.
Maryland has dominated the all-time series with Virginia, 32-16. However, the Cavaliers have won the last four meetings.
The Terps are led offensively by Katie Usher, who leads the team with 141 kills and a .269 hitting percentage. Freshman middle blocker Lisa Scott leads the Terps with 59 blocks, the 10th-best mark in the ACC.
Saturday's match against Virginia will be broadcast love on the Internet via ACC Select.
