  • COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland volleyball team takes to the road this weekend for Atlantic Coast Conference matches at Duke and Wake Forest Friday and Saturday, respectively.

The Terrapins (5-16, 1-8 ACC) are looking to snap their eight-match losing streak, beginning at 7 p.m. Friday against the Duke Blue Devils. The Terps then travel to Wake Forest, where they will visit the Demon Deacons at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Maryland is led by junior middle blocker Katie Usher, who owns the team lead in kills (193), hitting percentage (.269) and service aces (15) heading into the weekend. After a strong performance Sunday against Clemson, senior right side Mary Beth Brown is looking to make history this weekend as she enters the weekend only four blocks shy of moving into third place in school history behind former teammates Rachel Wagener and Stephanie Smith.

The Blue Devils are one of the hotter teams in the ACC right now, having won five of their last six matches to sit at 15-6 and 6-3 in the conference heading into the weekend.

Duke is one of the top offensive teams in the ACC, ranking third with 13.59 kills per set, and fourth in hitting percentage at .245. The Blue Devils have won the last five meetings in the series. Maryland's last win at Duke came in the 2003 season.

After a strong start to the season, Wake Forest has struggled the last two weeks.

The Demon Deacons started 13-4 and 4-1 in the league, but have lost four straight matches to fall to 4-5 in the ACC.

Wake Forest setter Kelsey Jones leads the conference in assists, averaging 10.73 per set. Natalie Mullikin ranks in the top 10 in the conference in both hitting percentage (.331) and kills (3.32 per set). Lauren McIntyre is third in the ACC in blocks, averaging 1.20 per set.

The Demon Deacons have won four of the last five matchups in the series, but Maryland owns the all-time edge, 21-12.
