COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland volleyball team will look to continue its recent success against the Atlantic Coast Conference's Florida contingent this weekend when it travels south to face the Florida State Seminoles and Miami Hurricanes Friday and Sunday, respectively.
The Terrapins enter the weekend with a 5-12 record and 1-4 mark in ACC play, losing their last four, and will look to get healthy at 7 p.m. Friday at Florida State. The two teams have split the season series the last two years, but the Terps have won seven of the last 10 meetings in the series.
Florida State is tied with Maryland in the ACC standings as the Seminoles sit at 1-4 in the league after posting a solid 8-2 mark in non-conference play. However, all five of Florida State's conference matches have been on the road.
Maryland's attackers will have their hands full with Jordana Price and the Seminoles. The Seminoles rank 31st nationally in blocking, led by Price, who ranks third in the ACC and 21st in the nation, blocking 2.7 shots per set.
Offensively, Florida State boasts the top attacker in the ACC in Brianna Barry. Barry is hitting .439 entering the weekend.
The Terps have an off day Saturday before playing the Hurricanes at 1 p.m. Sunday. Maryland swept Miami last season and has won the last three matches in the series. Historically, the Terps own a 7-2 advantage against the Hurricanes.
However, Miami is off to an impressive start this season under head coach Nicole Lantagne-Welch, a former setter at Maryland.
Miami is 14-2 overall and 3-2 in the ACC, winning all 11 non-conference meetings this season. The Hurricanes are coming off an impressive four-set victory at Georgia Tech last weekend. The Hurricanes are the second-most efficient offensive team in the conference, hitting .262 as a unit.
Friday's match against Florida State will be televised in the Florida area on Sun Sports and will also be carried live online via ACC Select. Sun Sports is available on DirecTV for those subscribers in Florida. Sun Sports is also available to any DirecTV user that has the sports package.
