GREENSBORO, N.C. - University of Maryland center Edwin Williams was named Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Williams graded out as the Terps' top offensive lineman in Saturday's 17-15 win over No. 17 North Carolina.
The senior from Washington, D.C., saw action in all 85 offensive plays and was credited with five big blocks. He helped open holes for running backs Da'Rel Scott (129) and Davin Meggett (86) who combined for 215 rushing yards (5.1 ypc) in less than ideal playing conditions.
Williams and the offensive line also allowed just one sack of quarterback Chris Turner in his 31 pass attempts. Tom Brattan said it was "one of the best grades he has given out" in his eight years as the Maryland offensive line coach.
Also honored this week by the ACC were Clemson running back C.J. Spiller (offensive back), defensive end Marcus Robinson of Miami (defensive lineman/MLB), safety Marcellus Bowman of Boston College (defensive back), P/PK Matt Bosher of Miami (specialist) and Russell Wilson of NC State (rookie).
Maryland's Da'Rel Scott was nominated for the offensive back award, Adrian Moten for OLB/defensive back, Davin Meggett for top rookie and Obi Egekeze as the specialist.
The Terps (7-3, 4-2) face Florida State (7-3, 4-3) Saturday in Chevy Chase Bank Field at Byrd Stadium (7:45 p.m.). Maryland can clinch the ACC Atlantic Division title with a win over FSU, coupled with a Wake Forest win at home vs. Boston College.
