COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland volleyball team plays its last two home matches of the season this weekend when the Miami Hurricanes and Florida State Seminoles visit Comcast Pavilion Friday and Saturday night, respectively.
Both weekend matches begin at 7 p.m. and Saturday's match against Florida State is Senior Night. The Terps will honor seniors Mary Beth Brown, Maggie Schmelzle, Tedi Doucet, Meredith Doyle and Kathleen Wilson before the start of the match against the Seminoles.
The University will also recognize former volleyball head coach Janice Kruger before the Florida State match.
Maryland is led by junior middle blocker Katie Usher, who leads the team in kills (225), attack percentage (.266) and blocks (79). Usher is second on the team in service aces with 17.
The Terrapins (6-19, 2-11 ACC) face former Maryland volleyball star Nicole Lantagne-Welch's Miami Hurricanes (20-5, 8-5 ACC) Friday. The Terps and Hurricanes played a hard-fought, four-set match in Coral Gables, Fla. earlier this season, with Miami earning the victory.
However, Maryland has dominated the all-time series between the two schools, taking seven of the 10 all-time matches. The Terps have never lost to the Hurricanes in College Park, Md.
Miami went undefeated in non-conference play this season and is the only ACC team with 20 wins so far this season. The Hurricanes sat atop the conference standings for much of the season, but losses in three of their last four matches have dropped them two games behind Clemson for first place.
The Seminoles (15-8, 7-6 ACC) also defeated the Terps in four sets this season. Florida State enters the weekend on a bit of a hot streak, having won four of its last five matches to earn a winning record in the conference.
Like the Miami series, Maryland has traditionally dominated the Seminoles in College Park, winning 14 of 16 all-time meetings. The Terps lead the all-time series, 19-14.
Admission is free for all Maryland volleyball matches and doors to Comcast Pavilion open one hour before the start of each match.
