Postgame Quotes

Maryland Head Coach Ralph Friedgen

On Da'Rel Scott:
"Da'Rel had a tough because the line was not giving him help and he didn't practice most of the week without contact."

On running the ball tonight:
"I thought we would be able to run some but we struggled and we go into a throwing contest. I also knew we had to throw to win tonight. It is tough to win when you can not run the ball. We didn't run the ball we are capable of doing."

On stopping Virginia Tech's run game:
"I talked to them all week about stopping the run and tonight, but Virginia Tech ran the ball down our throats. Hats off to them they are a good team."

On the changing of momentum:
"We had a few chances to gain momentum. Our first drive we had a chance to score and missed a field goal. We had a chance when we blocked a kick. Tory Smith blocks a punt and goes for the guys thigh rather than the ball we could have had a different outcome of the play."

On the Maryland tackling:
"I didn't think we tackled particularly well. Evans broke a lot of tackles which hurt us throughout the game. We had guys there but we couldn't stop them."

Virginia Tech Head Coach Frank Beamer

On the game:
"I thought that was a pretty game. In the third quarter there were some ugly things, but what we are really proud of is our football team hung in there. We botched a kick, and after that the defense hung in there and held them to a field goal. I am really proud of our offense, give coach Bryan Stinespring credit. I think they did a good job. I am as proud as I can be of these guys. I am proud of this team.

"I think we beat a good team. That Maryland crowd is a good team, they are well-coached. They battle and they are a good football team and so are we."

On the running game:
"We said we needed to run the football better. And when [Darren Evans] got in there he got hot. There were some holes there and when he got in there he ran strong, really strong at the end.

"We took last week and work on [Boone at quarterback] a little bit. I think that can keep developing and I think we have some possibilities there."
