Maryland Awaits Bowl Destination

Dec. 5, 2008

  • 2008 ACC Bowl Selection Process

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland football team is bowl eligible for the sixth time in the last eight seasons, including each of the last three years.

The Terps (7-5, 4-4), one of 10 qualified teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference, are now awaiting an invitation to one of the nine league tie-in games.

The Terrapins are expected to find out their destination on Sunday, with the outcome of Saturday's ACC championship game between Boston College and Virginia Tech, and the BCS selection process factoring into the destination.

The Bowl Championship Series will announce its selections on the Fox Selection Show at 8 p.m. ET Sunday. Each ACC affiliated bowl game then makes its selection in the specified order, though two have already chosen teams.

The Chick-fil-A Bowl picked Georgia Tech and the Gator Bowl selected Clemson. The Champs Sports Bowl, next in the selection process, will wait until the outcome of Saturday's ACC title game before choosing a team

The ACC, the Bowls and individual schools will announce the selections after the BCS process.

Among Maryland's most likely destinations are the Gaylord's Hotels Music City Bowl in Nashville, Tenn., the Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte, N.C., and the Roady's Humanitarian Bowl in Boise, Idaho (see basic info for these three bowls below).

Trips to the Emerald Bowl and Eagle Bank Bowl are unlikely. Maryland played in the Emerald Bowl last season and is in its final exam period leading up to the Eagle Bank Bowl.

Terp fans are reminded that it's better to purchase tickets through the schools so you'll be able to sit with the Maryland faithful. Fans can pre-order tickets for the bowl game through the Terrapin Ticket Office, by clicking here or calling 1-800-IM-A-TERP.

Scheduling Note: Saturday's Ralph Friedgen Outback Steakhouse Television Show will air at 1 p.m. instead of 11 a.m. on Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic.
