COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Newly-hired Maryland volleyball coach Tim Horsmon took the first step in assembling his coaching staff today, tabbing Tami Ores, his top assistant and recruiting coordinator from his tenure at Dayton, as assistant coach.
"I am excited to have the opportunity to join the Terrapin coaching staff," Ores said. "I am ready for the challenge of recruiting in the Atlantic Coast Conference and working with the talented team already in place."
Ores spent the last five years at Dayton with Horsmon, winning four Atlantic 10 Tournament championships and earning four NCAA Tournament berths. As recruiting coordinator, Ores played a significant role in the Flyers' success the last five seasons, hauling in several highly-touted recruiting classes. According to prepvolleyball.com, Dayton had three top-30 classes in five years, including the No. 22 class in 2006.
"I am extremely happy Tami is joining our staff," Horsmon said. "I believe Tami has proven to be one of the strongest recruiters in the country. Tami will continue to work with our setters, where she has had great success."
Ores helped produce back-to-back Atlantic 10 Setters of the Year at Dayton in 2005 (Nicole Schott) and 2006 (Erin Schroeder). The Flyers totaled more than 1,700 assists each of the last three years under Ores' guidance, including a school-record 1,992 in 2006. The Flyers hit a school record .255 in 2006, as well.
Ores also made an impact coaching the Flyers' defensive specialists. Ores coached libero Adrienne Green, Dayton's all-time digs leader and one of the all-time NCAA leaders in digs per game.
A former two-time captain and All-Atlantic 10 setter at Xavier University, Ores finished seventh in the country in assists per game as a junior with 1,378 total. Ores and the Musketeers went to the Atlantic 10 Tournament championship match in 2000, where she earned all-tournament honors. Xavier won 78 games in Ores' four years.
Ores also served on the Executive Board of the Student Athletic Advisory Council, received the Thomas E. Sedler Award and won an NCAA Leadership at Xavier.
After graduating from Xavier in 2001, Ores got her first taste of coaching with the 14 Open team at the Cincinnati Mizuno Classics in 2001, followed by a stint at Delaware High School in Delaware, Ohio in 2002.
A Pontiac, Ill. Native, Ores received a Bachelor of Science Degree in sports management from Xavier in 2001.
