Calkin, Connolly Tied for Third at Cuthbert Cup

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - Kelly Calkin shot an even-par 72 and Kerri Connolly fired a 74 on Monday and each tied for third place individually to lead University of Maryland women's players at the Cuthbert Cup women's golf tournament hosted by the College of Charleston.
Calkin and Connolly had 36-hole totals of 145 heading into Tuesday's final round. They are three shots behind Steffi Kirchmayr and Courtney Brink of Charleston, who are tied atop the leader board at 142.
As a team, the Terrapins are in third place in the women's division after shooting a 297 on Monday. Their two-round total of 593 trails only the host Cougars, who are at 583 after a 296 on Monday and UNC Wilmington, which shot the best team round in the field on Monday at 290 and pulled within three shots of Charleston.
Also for Maryland, Hilary Lawson is tied for 17th at 150 after a 76 on Monday, while senior Katie Trotter shot a 75 Monday for a 153 total and a tie for 32nd. Lara Peffley is in 51st place at 159.
Brink, who was in a three-way tie for the lead, shot a 73 on Monday, while Kirchmayr had a 72 to pull even with her teammate in the battle for medalist honors.
The Cuthbert Cup is played in a unique format in collegiate golf, with a special trophy available to the school that has the combined low score for its men's and women's teams. The Maryland men are in fourth place in the team standings, and men and women will be paired together in Tuesday's final round, with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. at Osprey Point.
Maryland is in third in the combined scoring, 11 shots behind the College of Charleston, which is third on the men's side and leads the women's division by three shots over UNC Wilmington, which is second combined just two shots back.
