
Vagts Named CWPA Southern Division Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. - University of Maryland center defender Christen Vagts, who scored seven goals at last weekend's Terrapin Invitational, earned Collegiate Water Polo Association Southern Division Player of the Week honors, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Maryland (10-3) has won six in a row, including all five games during two-day tournament.
In Saturday's tournament opener vs. Iona College, Vagts tallied four goals, including three in the first half when the Maryland built a 6-2 lead en route to a 16-6 win.
Later in the day, Vagts scored a pair of goals, including the game winner in a hard-fought 9-8 victory over Marist College. Vagts' first score knotted the game at 7-all midway through the third period. After the teams traded goals later in the period, Vagts scored the lone goal at 4:10 of the final frame and the Terps held on for the win.
Despite seeing limited time in Sunday's games, Vagts still tallied a goal in Maryland's 20-12 victory over Wagner College.
Maryland is home again this weekend, serving as host to the Elite Six Tournament which is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at the Eppley Recreation Center Natatorium.
