COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland football alumnus and current athletics department staff member Darryl Hill will be the subject of a 30-minute show starting Monday, Feb. 4 at 9 p.m. on Comcast SportsNet.
Comcast SportsNet's Black History Month programming is highlighted by the 30-minute documentary, "Darryl Hill: Black Man, White Field." Narrated by Chick Hernandez, this program tells the story of Hill, who broke the color barrier in ACC football back in 1963. He faced tremendous resistance in this endeavor, particularly while playing road games in the segregated South. His success would eventually lead to the integration of ACC basketball, as well as athletics in the Southeastern and Southwest conferences.
The first airing of the show will be on Feb. 4, with encore showings throughout February.
Following a successful business career, Hill now serves as a development officer in the athletics department, working with the major-gifts effort. Hill was instrumental in enhancing the partnership between the University and Chevy Chase Bank that resulted in the development of the naming rights for Chevy Chase Bank Field at Byrd Stadium.
