GREENSBORO, N.C. - Three University of Maryland volleyball players were rewarded for their hard work in the classroom Friday as Beth Gillming (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy), Mary Beth Brown (Vienna, Va./James Madison) and Maggie Schmelzle (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) were named to the 2007 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Volleyball Team.
Gillming, an elementary education major who finished her career as Maryland's all-time leader in games played, was selected for the third straight year, dating back to the inaugural all-academic team in 2005.
Brown (marketing/transportation, logistics and supply chain management) and Schmelzle (information sciences) are first-time honorees.
The Terps' total of three selections tied for the second-most in the league. Duke led the way, placing five on the team.
To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must have earned a 3.0 GPA or better in the Fall 2007 semester and possess a cumulative GPA above 3.0, as well.
