ORANGE, Calif. - Shannon Simerly scored a game-high three goals and Jessica Ernst added two, lifting the University of Maryland women's water polo team to a 14-3 victory over Chapman University Tuesday night in the continuation of the Terps' spring break trip.
Earlier in the day Maryland (17-7) had its six-game winning streak snapped in a 15-6 loss at No. 14 Long Beach State.
In the win over Chapman, the Terps raced out to 10-1 halftime lead and never looked back. They also spread the scoring around with nine players posting a goal.
Goalkeeper Ashleigh Jobson played the first half registering four blocks and yielding one goal. Anna Gossett came on in the second half and surrendered two goals with seven blocks.
Long Beach State showed why it is among the nation's best. The 49ers broke open a 6-2 halftime lead with seven third-period goals. Branwyn Lee and Dayna Wawrzynski each had four goals for LBSU.
Laurel Laidlaw led the Terps with two goals.
Maryland concludes its road trip Wednesday, facing No. 11 Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles at 6 p.m. The Terps are 5-1 on the trip.
