COLLEGE PARK, Md. - New Maryland volleyball head coach Tim Horsmon has announced the Terrapins' 2008 spring schedule.
Horsmon and his staff have assembled a challenging slate, starting with the national champion Penn State Nittany Lions April 5 in College Park, Md. Maryland will then travel to the Midwest, first for the Sports Performance Tournament in Chicago April 19 and then the University of Cincinnati Tournament April 26, which will serve as a homecoming for Cincinnati natives Maggie Schmelzle and Michelle Kenning.
Match times will be announced at a later date. The Penn State match is closed to the public.
"I like the competitive spring schedule that we've assembled and, as a staff, we are excited to compete against a number of the best programs in the country," Horsmon said.
Horsmon is pleased with the team's performance in practice thus far, but knows there is a lot to be done throughout the spring.
"I like the culture that is forming and we are really paying attention to what players are stepping up into leadership positions and also what players are competing for positions," Horsmon said. "Our team has been working hard, but we have a lot to do in the next month. Our hope is that by our last couple weekends, we will really start to see the culmination of the hard work that we have put in the gym, as well as the weight room."
