POSITION TITLE: Head Coach - Wrestling
DEPARTMENT: Intercollegiate Athletics
CATEGORY: Non-tenured Faculty, Contract (12 months)
UNIVERSITY: The University of Maryland is among the most comprehensive and successful athletic programs in the United States with 27 sports and an annual expense budget of approximately $55 million. The University which is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities and a beautiful campus located eight miles north of the nation's capital and 30 miles south of Baltimore. The Athletic Program has won 15 national championships over the last 13 years and is a charter member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Currently, 79 of the University's academic programs are in their respective Top 25 nationally.
WRESTLING PROGRAM: Maryland is the defending ACC Wrestling Champion and rich in wrestling tradition and success, with 21 total ACC Championships, 13 All-Americans and 2 U.S. Olympians to its credit since the program's inception in 1940. The Comcast Center is one of the premier collegiate athletics facilities in the nation and the home of Maryland Wrestling. This state-of-the-art facility includes new office space for the coaching staff; team locker room; 1,500-seat competition gymnasium; 4,000 square foot wrestling practice room; 5,000 square foot weight training facility; sports medicine facility; and a 7,000 square foot Academic Support and Career Development center. Maryland Wrestling is fully supported with the NCAA maximum 9.9 scholarships..
RESPONSIBILITIES: Organize and direct all aspects of a competitive, Division I wrestling program. Specific responsibilities include overseeing two full-time assistant coaches; identifying and recruiting athletically and academically qualified student-athletes; scheduling and conducting practice sessions and regular season contests; overseeing the administrative process for team travel, budget, student-athlete eligibility and academic progress; developing, implementing, and enforcing team rules; rolemodeling for student-athletes; participating in fund raising and public relations activities; and promoting the philosophy and objectives of the Intercollegiate Athletics program. Knowledge of and full commitment to compliance with all NCAA, ACC and University rules and regulations, as well as dedication to the full academic and social development of wrestling student-athletes are essential. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree required. Must have at least 5 years of demonstrated successful coaching experience in wrestling at the Division I collegiate level, preferably as a head coach. Proven ability to attract and sign premier NCAA, Division I student-athletes is preferred. Must have knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. Strong communication and organizational skills.
SALARY: Commensurate with experience.
