Senior Kelly Calkin shot a final-round 74 to lead the University of Maryland to a seventh-place finish on Sunday at the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Golf Championship played at the Legends Course at LPGA International.
Calkin's 54-hole total of 222 gave her a top-10 finish in the event, as she tied for ninth individually. It was her fourth top-10 finish of the season and gave her back-to-back top-10 finishes at the ACC Women's Championship. She tied for eighth place last season with a 226 total in Charlotte, N.C.
As a team, Maryland shot a 309 on Sunday and the Terrapins' total of 922 placed them in seventh in the team standings. Maryland opened the final round one shot ahead of 39th-ranked NC State, but the Wolfpack rallied for sixth by shooting a 301 on Sunday.
Also for Maryland, Katie Trotter had a 77 on Sunday to finish at 227 and a tie for 21st. Freshman Kerri Connolly was 36th individually after a 235 total following a 78 on Sunday. Hilary Lawson placed 37th at 238 after a final-round 80 and Carla Wasienko was 44th at 260 after playing in her first ACC Championship.
Duke rallied for its 13th consecutive women's team championship after shooting 292 on Sunday. The Blue Devils finished one stroke ahead of Virginia, which went into the final round tied with Duke. Florida State shot 291 on Sunday to place third at 880.
Duke All-American Amanda Blumenherst shot a 71 on Sunday for a 212 total and earned medalist honors. She won by one stroke over Caroline Westrup of Florida State and by four strokes over Calle Nielson of Virginia.
The Maryland women will await word of a possible invitation to their third straight NCAA Regionals, with the selections being made later in the month.
