POSITION VACANCY POSITION TITLE: Executive Director of the M Club /Associate Athletic Director
DEPARTMENT: Intercollegiate Athletics
CATEGORY: Full-time, Exempt
UNIVERSITY: The University of Maryland is among the most comprehensive and successful athletic programs in the United States with 27 sports and an annual expense budget of approximately $55 million. The University is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities and is located on a beautiful campus located eight miles north of the nation's capital and 30 miles south of Baltimore. The Athletic Program has won 16 national championships over the last 13 years and is a charter member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Currently, 92 of the University's academic programs are in their respective Top 25 nationally.
THE M CLUB: The M Club is a 501(C) 3 non-profit organization and a University of Maryland Board of Regents Affiliated Foundation. The M Club Foundation's mission is to provide the opportunity for former letter winners to continue and/or renew their relationship with Maryland Athletics and their former teammates, as well as providing them with the opportunity to take an active part in preserving and promoting the traditions of Maryland Athletics.
REPORT STRUCTURE: The Executive Director of the M Club is a state employee, who reports to a Senior Associate Athletic Director or higher-ranking official in the University of Maryland's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. As a state and university employee, the Executive Director of the M Club, is responsible to the University of Maryland and its Athletic Department and shall take directions accordingly. The University shall supervise and direct the activities of the Executive Director in all matters to ensure compliance will all NCAA, ACC, State and University rules, regulations, and guidelines. The policies and direction of the M Club Foundation are the sole responsibility of the President and the Board of Directors of the M Club Foundation, and as such, the Executive Director, on all matters relating to the M Club Foundation, shall take directions accordingly. The Executive Committee of the Board shall participate in the Executive Director's annual performance evaluation and shall make recommendations regarding the Executive Director's compensation.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the policy and direction of the M Club Board of Directors and the day-to-day supervision of the Athletic Department, the Executive Director shall be responsible for the following activities: coordinating M Club Board and Committee meetings, providing on-going information and briefings on matters impacting the M Club, maintaining M Club records, cultivating, retaining, and increasing membership to the M Club, representing the M Club at designated events and activities, coordinating the M Club Newsletter, maintaining M Club membership roster, ensuring publicity and news coverage of M Club events and activities, coordinating career networking opportunities, coordinating events and functions for former letter winners, actively participating in the recognition and enshrinement of former letter winners in the University of Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame, coordinating the identification and selection of the outstanding citizen award, maintaining the M Club strategic plan and annual operating agreement, and assisting in developing the annual M Club budget.
Additionally, this position serves as the liaison between the University of Maryland Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the M Club Foundation. In this role, the Executive Director develops and implements M Club and ICA co-sponsored special events including, but not limited to, the Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Dinner, President's Cup Awards Brunch and Letter Winner's Day, works with ICA coaches and staff in recognizing current student-athletes and letter winners, maintains ICA alumni databases, and annually updates the Comcast Center Walk of Fame and History display, All-American display, Hall of Fame display, and trophy cases.Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree and at least three (3) years of demonstrated detail-oriented management experience are required. Former UMCP letter winner, fund-raising experience, work in a nonprofit and/or event planning experience are preferred. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential. The successful candidate should be a consensus builder and creative thinker.
SALARY:Commensurate with experience.
