Calkin Repeats as All-ACC Selection

May 6, 2008

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Kelly Calkin of the University of Maryland on Tuesday earned her second straight selection to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference women's golf team in balloting by the league's nine coaches.

Calkin, a senior from St. Charles, Ill., was one of a dozen selections to the all-league team. She was the Terrapins' leader in scoring average this year at 75.8. She led the team in rounds at or under par with five, and had the lowest 18-hole score of the year by a Maryland player with a 69.

In 10 tournaments this season, Calkin had four top-10 finishes and placed among the top 20 in seven events. Her best finish was a tie for third at the Cuthbert Cup.

Calkin, who also earned All-ACC honors in 2007, finished her career in second on the all-time list in scoring average. She and fellow senior Katie Trotter played in a school-record 121 rounds, appearing in the starting lineup in every event for all four seasons.

Amanda Blumenherst of Duke, the ACC individual champion, was voted the league's Player of the Year. Natalie Sheary of Wake Forest was voted the league's Freshman of the Year, and Virginia's Kim Lewellen was the Coach of the Year after bringing the Cavaliers within one stroke of breaking Duke's 12-year hold on the team title.
