POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Director of Major Gifts
DEPARTMENT: Intercollegiate Athletics
CATEGORY: Full-time, Contractual
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of Major Gifts reports to the Associate AD for Major Gifts and is one of 14 full-time staff members in athletics development. This individual is responsible for developing key relationships with prospects and donors rated with a giving capacity of $50,000 or more. The successful candidate will have a visible role in the athletics development program, working as a member of the development team to meet or exceed the fund raising goals for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics in Great Expectations: The Campaign for Maryland, the University's $1 billion fund raising effort. The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has raised $68.5 million of the $133 million goal in the seven-year campaign for facility improvement, scholarships and special projects. Responsibilities include identifying prospects; creating and implementing cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies; managing a portfolio of 150-200 prospects and donors; serving as the lead staff person on various campaign components; developing supporting communications and marketing materials; and other duties as assigned. This position involves local and occasional out-of-state travel.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree required. Minimally five years of fundraising and/or other external related experience, with a proven record of achievement. Candidate must be a skilled presenter with excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. Basic computer literacy is required, with experience in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Paciolan preferred. High energy level and the ability to work athletics events on nights and weekends are required.
SALARY: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
