POSITION VACANCY
POSITION TITLE: Sr. Associate Director of Athletics for Business & Finance (Chief Financial Officer)
DEPARTMENT: Intercollegiate Athletics
CATEGORY: Exempt, Full-time (109916)
RESPONSIBILITIES: Serves as the Chief Financial Officer for Intercollegiate Athletics. The FY09 budget will be approximately $60 million ($55 million in operations and $5 million in debt service). The department sponsors 27 varsity teams, has won 16 national championships over the last 14 years and is a charter member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Reviews, recommends and supervises the implementation of financially-related strategies, department and University policies and procedures, and interaction with multiple Foundations. Develops and negotiates economies of travel, including charters, hotels, airlines, and advance travel. Conducts regular, periodic audits of all athletic department units. Reviews, updates, and approves Comcast Center Business plan, including monitoring Terrapin Sports Marketing agreement. Conducts small group meetings with coaches and sport supervisors to discuss financial issues, and to ensure requirements to stay under budget are met. Actively participates in budget planning by developing ideas to generate revenue and cut costs, including the review of fundraising initiatives. Serves as the Director's liaison with the football and men's basketball office related to team expenses and scheduling of out of conference competitions. This member of the senior management team reports to the Director of Athletics and oversees all business operations, including payroll. Sports Supervision for our sports is possible. Oversight of IT operations.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Business Administration or Finance. Master's degree and/or CPA preferred, or 10 years relevant experience. A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible professional management experience in accounting, financial analysis, and budgeting, preferably in a Division IA collegiate setting. Must have at least 5 years of successful supervisory experience and proven ability to manage budgets. Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.
