GREENSBORO, N.C. - University of Maryland senior offensive lineman Edwin Williams was voted to the 2008 Preseason All-ACC team by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA), the league office announced Wednesday.
Williams was a consensus preseason all-conference choice, appearing on the first team in The Sporting News, Lindy's and Blue Ribbon Yearbook. He was a second team selection by Athlon.
The 6-foot-3, 315-pounder was also named to the watch list for the 2008 Rimington Trophy which is awarded to the top center in the nation.
Williams has started the last 26 games at center for the Terps, the longest streak on the offense. He is one of four starters back on an offensive line which opened holes for running backs Keon Lattimore and Lance Ball in 2007. Lattimore and Ball combined to rush for nearly 1,600 yards and 25 touchdowns last season.
Quarterback Cullen Harper of Clemson was tabbed the ACC Preseason Player of the Year, receiving 34 votes.
The preseason team was voted on during the ACC Football Kickoff in Greensboro, Ga., which concluded Tuesday. The complete preseason team can be found at www.theacc.com.
Maryland reports to preseason camp on Monday, Aug. 4 and kicks off the 2008 regular season on Saturday, Aug. 30 when it plays host to Delaware at 3:45 p.m. from Chevy Chase Bank Field at Byrd Stadium.
Season tickets for this fall's seven-game home slate start as low as $189 and are on sale through the Maryland Athletics Ticket Office. Call 1-800-IM-A-TERP or click here for information.
