
Freshmen Report to Football Camp

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - A new crop of freshmen arrived on campus Saturday evening and will join the Maryland football team for preseason practice.
Twelve student-athletes join fellow true freshmen Devonte Campbell, Kevin Dorsey, Matt Furstenberg and Demetrius Hartsfield on the roster. Campbell, Dorsey, Furstenberg and Hartsfield entered school in the January and took part in spring practice.
Carl Russell and Joe Vellano are also true freshmen who practiced in the spring, though they signed with the Terps in 2007.
Freshmen Kerry Boykins, Cameron Chism, R.J. Dill, John Dillon, Gary Douglas, A.J. Francis, Justin Gilbert, Masengo Kabongo, Justin Lewis, Davin Meggett, Eugene Skinner and Kenny Tate are the newest members of the freshmen class. They will be among 105 student-athletes participating in preseason camp.
The veterans are scheduled to arrive Sunday, with the team slated to meet as a group that evening.
The newcomers and their families gathered Saturday evening at the Gossett Team House for dinner and a meet and greet session with head coach Ralph Friedgen and the staff.
The freshmen will continue the orientation process through Sunday afternoon.
The preseason's first practice is slated for 4:15 p.m. Monday, and more than three weeks of workouts will follow, culminating with the opening game against Delaware on Saturday, Aug. 30, at Chevy Chase Bank Field at Byrd Stadium (3:45 p.m. ET).
The team will work out in full pads for the first time on Friday and hold its first two-a-day session Saturday. The first of three scrimmages will also take place Saturday.
Practice and scrimmages are closed to the public.

Media Day: The Terps will hold their annual Media Day on Monday at the Gossett Team House. Head coach Ralph Friedgen will hold a press conference from noon to 12:30 p.m. which will be available live through Maryland All-Access. Media Day is not open to the public.
Terps Receiving Votes: Maryland received votes in the USA Today preseason poll which was released Friday. The Terps will play three teams ranked in the top 25 and five more which received votes. Maryland will face off with No. 9 Clemson, No. 15 Virginia Tech and No. 23 Wake Forest. Florida State, Boston College and California are also on the Terps schedule and they just missed out on the top 25. Virginia and North Carolina also received votes in the poll.
