Terps Put Record Number on ACC Honor Roll

GREENSBORO, N.C. - A school-record 272 student-athletes at the University of Maryland were named to the Atlantic Coast Conference Honor Roll, the conference office announced recently.

The number of Terrapins honored has risen steadily over the last five years, with more than 250 student-athletes on the listing in each of the last four years. There were 261 Terps on the list last academic year. Maryland was second in the ACC among public institutions.

Highlighting the list for Maryland were wrestler Charlie Pinto, who was making his fifth appearance on the list. He was one of 16 five-time honorees.

Four Maryland student-athletes who also earned player of the year honors were on the Honor Roll. Omar Gonzalez, the men's soccer defensive player of the year and women's basketball player of the year Crystal Langhorne were on the list. They joined women's lacrosse player of the year Dana Dobbie and wrestling's Hudson Taylor.

The Honor Roll is comprised of those student-athletes who participated in a varsity-level sport and registered a grade-point average of 3.00 or better for the full academic year. This year saw 2,710 student-athletes honored for their hard work in the classroom. Boston College led the conference in total selections with 408. Duke placed second with 388.

North Carolina was third with 286 honorees, while Maryland was fourth with 272. Virginia saw 226 student-athletes earn spots on the list, followed by Virginia Tech (201), Clemson (188), Florida State and NC State (174), Wake Forest (139), Miami (133), and Georgia Tech (121).
