Welcome back to campus! We hope everyone has learned about the annual picnic that will be held on Tuesday, September 2nd at the West End Concourse of Chevy Chase Bank Field at Byrd Stadium. Check-in begins at 6:30pm at Gate E and the food service will begin at 6:45pm. This will be a great opportunity for student-athletes, coaches, staff, and administrators to get together to reflect on the past year and look forward to setting new goals for the upcoming 2008-2009 year.
We are excited to welcome all the new faces and returners to campus. While we work together for the upcoming year, the ASCDU hopes to provide the resources that you need to be successful in the classroom and have a well-rounded, enjoyable experience.
Once classes begin the events and activities start. As academics are the first priority, we want to make sure you all know that you can request a tutor online on the ASCDU website. Tutoring and study hall begins on Sunday, September 7th. For those of you who have earned a 3.0 in either semester last year, you will be honored at the Scholar-Athlete Game on September 13th at the football game versus Cal. In September, we begin the Career Development workshops and information sessions. In addition, we are working on the Terrapin Career Network that will unite alumni, employers and current student-athletes. Along with all of these activities we will be beginning the ninth year of the TERP Reading program, in which student-athletes visit local second grade classrooms. Finally, on September 21st, we will be welcoming the ASCDU's first female Fall Guest Speaker, Elaine Penn from CAMPUSPEAK. She will be speaking about diversity, community and leadership.
There will be many opportunities along the way to ensure that you are getting the education, support and experiences that you need for success. Please use the website and come in to talk if you have any questions about the opportunities the ASCDU has available for you.

"It is my hope that as student-athletes we all take advantage of the many opportunities being provided for us by the ASCDU staff. Keep your eyes and ears open for upcoming events and I look forward to seeing the great things we can accomplish as representatives of Maryland Athletics."
