COLLEGE PARK, Md. - 700 athletes, 27 sports, 1 team. That was the resounding message at the annual Student-Athlete Welcome Back Picnic, hosted by the athletics department and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at Byrd Stadium on Tuesday.

Director of Athletics Debbie Yow opened up the event with a greeting, followed by University President C.D. Mote and Under Armour Chairman and CEO Kevin Plank. Plank, a former football player at Maryland, emphasized what it means to be a Terp and discussed plans that Under Armour has in servicing Maryland student-athletes.

"This picnic gives us a chance to welcome back the student-athletes and give them the opportunity to get together on the first day back," Anton Goff, Associate Athletic Director for the Academic Support and Career Development Unit (ASCDU), said. "We are excited to have everyone back on campus and wish them well on the upcoming year."

Jenny Collins, SAAC President and a member of the women's lacrosse team, addressed the group and reiterated the goals for SAAC in 2008-09. Coaches from each sport then came on stage to announce their captains and members on the SAAC committee.

The night concluded with a video featuring game highlights from all 27 teams and snippets of various people on campus wishing the Terps luck this season.
