COLLEGE PARK, Md. - A record crowd watched the University of Maryland volleyball team face No. 17 Florida State Friday evening at Comcast Center for the beginning of the school's annual Maryland Madness celebration, a match won by the Seminoles, 3-0.

The final attendance of 2,017 easily surpassed the previous Maryland home record of 1,716 set Sept. 16, 2006 against UCLA. Florida State won by scores of 25-12, 25-22 and 25-14.

Florida State (16-2, 7-1 ACC) set the tone of the match early in the first set, embarking on a 10-0 run to take a commanding 14-4 lead. Maryland (10-11, 2-6 ACC) couldn't find an offensive rhythm and hit -.176 in the frame.

The Terps played much better in the second set, scoring the first three points and jumping out to a 9-5 lead. After a timeout, the Seminoles regrouped and raced to a 22-16 lead and appeared in complete control of the match. However, the Terps rallied to get within a point at 23-22. But Florida State wouldn't be denied and scored the final two points to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Maryland was again competitive with Florida State for much of the third set. The Seminoles held a slim lead at 13-11 and the Terps were right in the thick of things. However, Florida State pulled away at the end, finishing the match on a 12-3 run, hitting .565 in the stanza.

Brianna Barry and Fatma Yildirim paced Florida State with 11 kills apiece. Maddi Lee and Kara Bates each had six kills for Maryland.

The Terps return to the court at 1 p.m. Sunday against the Miami Hurricanes.
