COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland version of the Madness still reigns supreme.
Before an excited and loud crowd at Comcast Center, the University of Maryland men's and women's basketball teams rang in the new season Friday night with the annual celebration of Maryland Madness.
It was a night when the Mighty Sound of Maryland marching band played, the men's alumni started the evening with a scrimmage, the Terp spirit squad and dance team performed and the famous Maryland Gymkana Troupe were featured.
It was also a night when women's head coach Brenda Frese and men's head coach Gary Williams introduced their new teams to the Terrapin faithful. Both the men's and women's teams held a brief intrasquad scrimmage before the official practice schedule begins on Saturday.
The men's season begins Nov. 3 with an exhibition game against Indiana, Pa.
The women open with an exhibition the next evening against Bowie State.
Tickets for all Maryland basketball games are available by calling the Terrapin Ticket Office at 1-800-IM-A-TERP or online at www.umterps.com.
