Former Terp to Play on Croatian National Team

Oct. 2, 2009

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Former Terp Blaise Stanicic continues to attack the water polo scene and not just on offense.

Stanicic is going overseas to play for "Mladost," a Croatian water polo club from Zagreb, which was first established in 1946 as a part of the Mladost Sports society.

The team will be competing in both the Croatian National Championship and the Croatian Cup, which is a single-elimination format. The team has also entered the LEN trophy, a European club tournament, which should begin their qualifying rounds later this month.

Stanicic, who ended her Maryland career in the spring, will also be a member of the Croatian National team who will be practicing and competing for a shot at the European Championship next year, which will be played in Zagreb. The European Championship is held bi-annually.

Stancic was a two-time All-American with the Terps. She had a team-best 35 assists last season and was second in points (63).
