
Terps Open Play at ITA Regionals

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Maryland women's tennis team is in Blacksburg,Va., this weekend to play in the Wilson/ITA Atlantic Regional Championships.
Play for both the singles and doubles main draws will begin Friday and qualifying action began Thursday.
Terp freshman Burce Kurkan won her first-round qualifying match 6-3, 6-1 over Morgan State's Nekesa Thomas. Kurkan then lost her second match to top-seeded Neela Vaez of Virginia 6-4, 6-4. Meanwhile, No. 6 qualifier Oksana Krutiyenko lost to Virginia's Riley Banks 6-1, 6-1 in her opening-round match.
In doubles, both Terrapin teams fell, with Lexi Brand and Krutiyenko and No. 4 Lisa Miller and Maggie MacKeever bowing out in Thursday's qualifying action.
Five Terps - Brand, Jordan Hansbrough, Miller, MacKeever, and Julia Huschke - will begin singles play Friday in the tournament's main draw. Hansborough and Huschke will also start doubles play against William and Mary's No. 6 seeded Ragini Acharya and Lauren Sabacinski.
Play continues until Monday.
