COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland volleyball team is home at Comcast Pavilion this weekend for a pair of Atlantic Coast Conference matches against Virginia and Virginia Tech Friday and Sunday, respectively.
The Terrapins are currently 10-12 and 2-7 in the ACC and looking to win their first conference match at home this season, as well as snap a four-match losing streak.
Senior Katie Usher and sophomore Lisa Scott have given Maryland a solid tandem in the middle. Usher is hitting .335 and averaging nearly a block per set, while Scott ranks third in the conference in blocking. Maryland's service game has improved dramatically this year, led by freshman libero Sam Rosario. Rosario leads the ACC with 39 aces, while the Terps are tied for the conference lead with 122 aces.
Virginia is currently 7-13 and 2-7 in league play. The Cavaliers are struggling as of late, having dropped nine of their last 10 matches. The Terps are looking to break through against the Cavaliers. Despite owning a commanding 32-18 lead in the all-time series, Maryland has lost six straight to Virginia.
Virginia Tech is one of the hottest teams in the ACC coming into the weekend. The Hokies are 15-5 and 5-4 in the ACC, including four straight conference victories. The Hokies own consecutive victories against North Carolina, Georgia Tech and Clemson and rank among the top four in the league in most statistical categories. Maryland leads the all-time series with Virginia Tech, 7-5, but the Hokies have taken five of the last six meetings.
Friday's match against Virginia is the annual "Dig Pink" match. Maryland will be wearing pink and the program will be taking donations to support breast cancer awareness.
