COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland Terrapins are enjoying their lone bye week of the 2009 season, but about 30 reserves saw action Monday in a junior varsity game against Fork Union Military Academy.
Reserve backs Louis Berman and Andrew Braxton each had rushing touchdowns, but it was enough for the Terrapins who fell to Fork Union, 14-13, on a late score in a game which featured a running clock during 12-minute quarters.
Braxton's 5-yard touchdown with 7:11 remaining in the game put the Terps on top 13-8, but Mike Barbour's extra-point attempt was blocked.
Fork Union then drove 73 yards in seven plays for the winning score with 2:11 remaining.
Anthony Green, a reserve defensive back, played quarterback for Maryland and completed 5 of 11 passes for 35 yards. He also rushed seven times for 18 yards.
Berman was the leading ground gainer with four rushes for 29 yards. His 5-yard TD run early in the second quarter gave the Terps a 7-0 lead.
The Maryland defense forced a pair of turnovers as LB Herbert Law and DB Mike Salvatico each had interceptions. Law's interception set up Berman's touchdown, but the Terps were unable to cash in on Salvatico's pick.
Ryan Donohue, a true freshman who has played in the last four games, had a game-high nine tackles, including six solo stops and one sack. Salvatico, DB Michael Carter and DL Masengo Kabongo had five tackles apiece.
No Maryland receiver had more than one catch. Paul Lariviere had an 11-yard reception and Webb Dulin hauled in a 10-yard pass from Green.
