COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The No. 1-ranked Maryland field hockey team will head to Durham, N.C. today to take on No. 14 Duke tomorrow at 1 p.m. The Terps are 13-0 after holding off No. 5 Princeton Wednesday night in a 3-2 overtime win at home at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
Freshman Megan Frazer and junior Katie O'Donnell each scored in regulation Wednesday night to keep the score tied at 2-2 at the end of regulation. Senior Nicole Muracco scored the game-winning goal in overtime off of an assist from O'Donnell with 7:36 remaining in the game. Senior goalkeeper Alicia Grater had seven saves in the game.
Maryland is currently 3-0 in ACC play and sits atop the conference standings after defeating No. 3 Virginia 3-1 last Friday. Duke is 6-5 on the year and 0-3 in the conference.
SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS
The Terrapins will look to stop Duke's Amie Survilla, who leads the nation and the ACC in goals. The Terps will also be looking to score against Duke's junior goalkeeper Samantha Nelson leads the conference in saves per game with 4.50.
POWER PENALTY CORNERS
Maryland held on to its penalty corner advantage Wednesday night. The Terps had 11 penalty corners to the Tigers' 3. The Terrapins have amassed 113 penalty corner opportunities on the year and have allowed their opponents just 65.
OFFENSIVE TERPS
Muracco still leads the Terrapins in goals with 18, with O'Donnell just behind her at 15. O'Donnell leads the team with 17 assists and 47 points.
ALL IN THE FAMILY
Maryland has faced one of the Jennings triplets in each of its last two games and will see the last of the trio, Blue Devil Tara, tomorrow. In their last two games, the Terps saw Rachel, who plays for UVA, and Erin, who plays for Princeton.
ACColades
The Terps' Emma Thomas was named Co-ACC Player of the Week for this current week. She holds the honor with North Carolina's Melanie Brill. Thomas is the fourth Terps to be honored this year, following O'Donnell, Muracco and freshman Janessa Pope.
