Sophomore Lisa Scott posted a team-best 11 kills and hit a career-high .588 Friday evening at the University of Miami, as the University of Maryland volleyball team lost in three sets in an Atlantic Coast Conference match, 25-17, 25-16 and 25-20.
Miami (17-11, 10-8 ACC) was able to neutralize Maryland's attack, holding the Terps (13-18, 5-13 ACC) to .124 hitting for the match while the Hurricanes hit .255.
The Terps hung right with the Hurricanes in the early to mid stages of each set, but Miami answered with a deciding run in all three. Maryland hit .100 and .098 in the first two sets, while Miami hit .257 and .300, respectively, to take the first two sets and carry a 2-0 lead into the break.
Maryland held Lane Carico, the ACC's leader in kills, well below her season averages with 11 kills on .214 hitting. However, Christine Williamson stepped up with 14 kills on .500 hitting for the Canes.
Senior Katie Usher added seven kills for the Terps and freshman Sam Rosario added 13 digs. Rosario now has 467 digs on the season, the fifth-best single-season total in Maryland history.
Maryland will remain in the state of Florida, as its heads north to conference-leading and 15th-ranked Florida State at 1 p.m. Sunday.
