Nov. 24, 2009
The University of Maryland volleyball team concludes the 2009 season at 3 p.m. Wednesday against Boston College at Comcast Pavilion.
The Terrapins (13-19, 5-14 ACC) are looking to conclude the season with a victory the day before Thanksgiving and also complete a season sweep of the Eagles (12-18, 2-17 ACC).
The match will be the last in the careers of Maryland seniors Katie Usher, Hayley Hanson and Christina Paul.
Usher has had a solid final season in College Park. Usher is hitting .331 on the season to rank 10th in the ACC and is coming off one of the best matches of her career last Sunday at No. 15 Florida State, tying a career high with 18 kills on .667 hitting. Usher will finish her career ranked in Maryland's all-time top 10 in hitting percentage, solo blocks, block assists, total blocks and points.
Hanson will finish in the school's top 10 in assists and Paul has had her most productive season at Maryland, setting career highs in every category.
Sophomore Lisa Scott and freshman Sam Rosario have had excellent season for the Terps, as well. Scott leads the ACC in solo blocks with 31, the sixth-best single-season total in Maryland history and already ranks eighth all-time in school history with 51. Rosario is second in the ACC with 49 service aces and sixth in the conference in digs at 4.12 per set. Rosario's 474 digs this season is currently the sixth-highest single-season total in program history, just nine shy of fifth place.
Maryland opened conference play Sept. 22 at Boston College, winning 3-1. The Terps are 6-4 in the all-time series against the Eagles. After a 10-1 start in non-conference play, Boston College has won only twice since the start of ACC play, with both wins coming against NC State.
