BRIDGEPORT, Pa. - University of Maryland water polo players Elizabeth Hopkins and Elina Goldenberg earned honors for their exploits this weekend. Hopkins won Collegiate Water Polo Association Southern Division Player of the Week as Goldenberg brought home Collegiate Water Polo Association Southern Division Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Senior utility Hopkins posted back-to-back hat tricks in victories over division rivals Bucknell, 13-9, and Princeton, 11-9 on Sunday. She currently leads the Terrapins in goals with 12 through the first six games. This is Hopkins' second CWPASD Player of the Week award, her first came in March of her sophomore year.
A four-time All-American in high school at St. Thomas Aquinas, Goldenberg has made a smooth transition to Maryland. She led the Terps with four goals against Bucknell and ranks second on the team with 11. Her Rookie of the Week accolades are the first in the team's six year history.
Maryland (3-3, 2-0) are riding a three game winning streak and stand in sole possession of first place in the division with each division team having played at least one game for the first time in program history.
